On the Axiomatization of the Satiation and Habit Formation Utility Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a preference condition called shifted difference independence to model the reference point dependent measurable time preference. Based on this condition, we axiomatize a general habit formation and satiation model (GHS) to capture both effects of habit formation and satiation. This model allows for a general habit formation function and satiation function that contain the functional forms in the existing literature as special cases. Since the GHS model can be reduced to either a general satiation model (GSa) or a general habit formation model (GHa), our theory also provides approaches to axiomatize both the GSa model and the GHa model. Furthermore, by adding extra preference conditions into our axiomatization framework, we axiomatize a GHS model with a linear habit formation function and a recursively defined linear satiation function. Finally, we show that the idea developed in this paper also applies to the axiomatization of these models for risky time preference.

Investigation on Habit Formation, Risk Aversion and Intertemporal Substitution in Consumption of Iranian Households by GMM Approach
Consumption is the principal feature of Iranâs Gross National Production. Therefore, recognizing of factors that influence it is quite crucial. This article, investigates habit formation, durability, relative risk aversion and intertemporal substitution in consumption expenditures of Iranian households. For empirical study, at first, we constructed two weighted portfolio of the main assets re...
متن کاملPredicting Utility Under Satiation and Habit Formation
W introduce a modification of the discounted utility model that accounts for both satiation and habit formation in intertemporal choice. Preferences depend on the satiation level and the habitual consumption level. These two state variables, together with the shape of the value function, drive the properties of the model. One unique feature of our model is that it addresses the trade-off betwee...
متن کاملMISQ Archivist Mobile App Analytics: A Multiple Discrete-Continuous Choice Framework
The number of mobile apps launched in the market has exponentially grown to more than 2 million, but little is known about how users choose and consume apps of numerous categories. This study develops a utility theory-based structural model for mobile app analytics. We use the theoretical concepts of utility and satiation along with the factor analytic approach as bases in simultaneously modeli...
متن کاملFoundations of Intrinsic Habit Formation
We provide theoretical foundations for several common (nested) representations of intrinsic linear habit formation. Our axiomatization introduces an intertemporal theory of weaning a decision-maker from her habits using the device of compensation. We clarify differences across specifications of the model, provide measures of habit-forming tendencies, and suggest methods for axiomatizing time-no...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
